Free TV elation

WE ARE certain we speak on behalf of many when we say the scrapping of television licences will be a most welcome relief.

WE ARE certain we speak on behalf of many when we say the scrapping of television licences will be a most welcome relief.

Obviously the most excitement will come from those who have shirked their responsibility to do what the public broadcaster tells us is the right thing to do.

There are some who will incorrectly say the licence is not worth what we watch, conveniently forgetting that the licence is for ownership, not the quality of what is on show.

Also, the state has exploited the law allowing for such licences to neglect its responsibility of providing adequately for the public broadcaster.

One persuasive reason on the side of the argument for the scrapping of the fee is that it has proven itself cumbersome trying to police licence dodgers in a country where law enforcement resources are so thinly stretched, expending energy on finding TV licence "criminals".
