A SECURITY guard faces a murder charge in the Bloemfontein magistrate's court today.
Marius van Niekerk has been charged with the murder of Sdeku Wotshela, who was allegedly attacked by a group of white men at a Bloemfontein pub on June 10 2009.
Van Niekerk was allegedly released within 24 hours of his arrest on R500 bail under circumstances that have infuriated Wotshela's family.
The National Prosecuting Authority said Van Niekerk was released after an agreement between the prosecutor, the investigating officer and his lawyers.
Police are allegedly investigating Van Niekerk's "mysterious release" .
He allegedly did not appear before a magistrate as is the norm when someone faces a "serious charge".
Wotshela, a training manager for Metcash at the Trade Centre in Bloemfontein, was on a business outing with colleagues and a client when he was allegedly attacked by a group of white men. He died on the spot.
A huge picket is expected outside the court in support of the Wotshela family, the organiser Thabo Mokoena said.
