Safa off-side in reappointing Carlos Parreira

CARLOS Alberto Parreira's re-appointment as Bafana Bafana coach comes as no surprise. He is an uncontaminated BEE beneficiary - that is Brazilians Economic Empowerment.

Safa, which in IsiZulu means "we are dying", failed to listen to thousands of South African soccer lovers to appoint a local coach.

Now the new Safa leadership have again showed a lack of confidence in local coaches and confirmed that assistant coach Pitso Mosimane is merely a ball fetcher.

Safa president Kirsten Nematandani has even undermined motor-mouth ANCYL president Julius Malema, who also wanted a local coach.

Chief, don't you know that what Julius wants, Julius gets. He is like a surreptitious prime minister in Jacob Zuma's cabinet.

Nematandani, your job is on the line. One mistake and you're out.

Parreira is back despite his failing to win a game in the 2008 African Nations Cup and only beating Chad in a competitive fixture during his reign from February 2007 to March 2008.

Worse, he recommended his crony, Joel Santana, who turned out to be even more of a failure. He failed to get the team to the 2010 African Nations Cup and lost eight of their past nine internationals.

This pushed Zuma's boys to 85 in the Fifa world rankings.

Supersport United coach Gavin Hunt was the perfect choice for the job.

Is Parreira coming back because his wife is better or because he does not have money to pay her hospital bills? Is that the reason why he took the Bafana-Bafana tender?
