I THINK that the issue of the nationalisation of mines needs to be debated whether we agree with Julius Malema or not. I am of the view that such a debate is very important and we need to engage with the masses.
I think that scoffing at every issue Malema raises is absurd because he does raise some important issues.
If you don't agree with him, then provide an alternative. Without debating the issue, we will never know whether nationalisation is bad or good for our economy and our country as far as improving the quality of life to our people.
As people, we all think differently. Nationalisation might have failed in many countries, but it can be a success in our country if we avoid the mistakes and the errors that were made when it was implemented elsewhere.
It seems that most South Africans are afraid to debate topics of major importance, and the direction of our economy is one of those.
We need to think out of the box instead of shooting down any subject that is suggested by someone whom we underestimate.
We may disagree with him, but Malema, in most cases, does raise the issues that affect many people who do not have the platform to raise them.
We can't have an economy that is booming, but that does not improve the quality of life to the majority of the people. That means that something is wrong and we need to figure out the problem and come up with a solution because it can not be left unattended.
