THE audience at the annual massed choir festival danced to Mafikizolo's Ngihamba nawe yesterday .

Mafikizolo - Nhlanhla Nciza and Theo Kgosinkwe - showed why they are among the country's top performers as they were well received by mainly adult festival goers who could not resist the duo's magic on stage.

Among those that hit the dance floor was actress Lilian Dube, whose dance moves prompted programme director Khabonina Khubeka to commend her for a job well done.

This year, just as in previous years, several event conductors directed the choir, among them Ludumo Magangane and Mokale Koaeeng. The choirs and theconductors did not disappoint.

The massed choir festival at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg, had a reduced turnout than last year, but the mood was exuberant.

The 450-voice choir was accompanied by an orchestra.

To rap up the proceedings, the choirs and the people in attendance sang the national anthem Nkosi sikelel' iAfrica.

But the rendition of the anthem was preceded by the people's favourite Shosholoza.

The massed choir festival is an annual event sponsored by Transnet and Sowetan as part of its Nation Building project.
