KWAZULU-NATAL commercial radio station Gagasi 99.5 FM's breakfast show host, Alex Mthiyane, is marrying his sweetheart.

KWAZULU-NATAL commercial radio station Gagasi 99.5 FM's breakfast show host, Alex Mthiyane, is marrying his sweetheart.

Mthiyane, who presents Alex and the Crew, will be tying the knot with East Coast Radio journalist Buyi Maphumulo.

The pair met four years ago while they were studying journalism at the Durban University of Technology.

Maphumulo, the daughter of late Contralesa leader Mhlabunzima Maphumulo, said this week that she could not resist Mthiyane's marriage proposal.

"I said yes, so I could also stop other women from ogling my man," Maphumulo admitted.

"I began to see that the man was serious when he introduced me to his family in December 2005.

"When he proposed I accepted."

"Marriage is a girl's dream and I had hoped that one day I would find my Mr Right.

"Alex is the one for me and I feel so honoured."

Maphumulo sounded a warning to other female admirers who might still be eying Mthiyane.

"The wedding speaks louder than words. I had feared I might lose him because of his popularity.

"Sometimes when I walk with him in the mall women come screaming for him - but I have adapted to the situation.

"I love my man and I'm praying to God to bless our beautiful day."

Mthiyane said their love flourished when they were students.

"It took me months to realise that I love Buyi. And I opted to make a lasting commitment," he said.

Mthiyane said he had been waiting for his big day for a long time.

"And I'm happy that we'll be able to stay with our daughter Aphiwe. I'm really over the moon that my family will be together."

"My wedding day is special because it coincides with my thirty-third birthday," he said.

A two-day ceremony will culminate at the groom's home in Empangeni with the taking of traditional vows.

The wedding is expected to attract the cream of the entertainment, political and business world.
