Another taxi owner shot dead

ANOTHER Nongoma taxi owner has been shot dead.

ANOTHER Nongoma taxi owner has been shot dead.

Mbongiseni Ndwandwe, 41, was allegedly shot dead by two men in Dabhasi, Nongoma, northern KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday.

This brings to four the number of taxi owners killed in the area this year alone. Nongoma Taxi Association chairperson, Mbuyiseni Khumalo said they were shocked by the killing since it happened just hours after a meeting that Ndwandwe had attended.

"All the Dabhasi killings occur outside the town. So we do not know whether it is linked to taxis or is just faction fights, but we nonetheless condemn the killing in the strongest possible terms," he said.

Police spokesperson Captain Vusi Mbatha confirmed that Ndwandwe's body was found riddled with bullets on Tuesday night.

Early this year the former transport MEC shut down the Nongoma rank after three people were killed.

After several meetings operators committed themselves to peace and the ban was lifted.
