Motimele preferred candidate

THE ANC's Ike Maphoto branch has nominated Stan Motimele as its preferred candidate ahead of the regional conference scheduled for next week.

THE ANC's Ike Maphoto branch has nominated Stan Motimele as its preferred candidate ahead of the regional conference scheduled for next week.

The Capricorn region is the only one that has not held a conference to elect new leaders. Its conference is scheduled for October 30 to November 1.

Motimele, former MEC for roads and transport, who enjoys the support of many branches in the region, will fight for the top spot with Lawrence Mapoulo.

The Ike Maphoto branch recently took a "collective decision" to vote for Motimele. Chairperson Naphtali Molope said this was a "collective decision". He said this was because "he is a tried and tested leader of the ANC."

Molope said they had also decided on Chuene Malebana as Motimele's deputy, Tshepo Mamabolo as secretary, Aganang municipality mayor Manoko Masehela as deputy secretary and Junior Ramusi as treasurer.

"We believe the list comprises seasoned campaigners who are well-acquainted with the culture of the ANC. They should be afforded an opportunity to lead us into the future.

"The main objective is to unify and strengthen the ANC in the region," Molope said.

ANC provincial secretary Joe Maswanganyi said yesterday they would deal with any disruptive elements during branch meetings where nominations were taking place.

This follows allegations that a branch meeting in the Aganang municipality was disrupted at the weekend.

"The disciplinary committee of the ANC is investigating these allegations and charges will be pressed against those found to have engaged in unruly behaviour during our meetings," Maswanganyi said.
