AN 84th-minute goal by substitute Sifiso Vilakazi steered Ajax Cape Town to a slender 1-0 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic in an exciting Absa Premiership encounter at Newlands Stadium yesterday.

Vilakazi, who replaced the wasteful Thulani Serero in the 76th minute, scored his side's, and the game's, solitary goal with a beautiful header off a Franklin Cale cross.

It was Phunya SeleSele's first defeat of the season.

The game started at a fast pace with Ajax enjoying most of the early possession.

But it was Celtic who had the first real chance at goal in the 11th minute when striker Tlou Segolela's attempt was saved by Ajax goalkeeper Hans Vonk.

Both sides tried their best to break the deadlock but their forwards fired blanks.

After a goalless first half, the home side came out firing in the second half as they attacked fiercely from all angles in search of a goal.

Ajax were unlucky not to take the lead in the 47th minute when defender Derek Decamps's well-calculated header missed the target by inches, following a free kick by Sameehg Doutie.
