Province and Bulls juniors flop

WITH their seniors fighting it out in the Currie Cup semifinal at Newlands on Saturday, both Western Province's junior teams and also those of the Blue Bulls lost their respective semifinals on home turf.

The Golden Lions Under-19s shocked the Blue Bulls 32-30 and then the Free State Under-21s repeated the feat in the main match at an empty Loftus by winning 12-6.

At Newlands, the Free State U-19s made it a great day for the union with all three their sides - Currie Cup, U-19s and U-21s - going through to the national competitions' finals in two weeks' time.

Free State won the U-19 match against WP 14-13. In the U-21 clash at Newlands, the Sharks were convincing winners over home side WP, 36-22.

l On Friday night the Griquas U-21 side showed their union was doing its work at junior level as well when they convincingly won the B-section final 46-22 against the Valke at Witbank.

Boland won the U-19 final 39-29 against Eastern Province.

l Hoërskool Monument took the important honours at the penultimate @lantic Sevens tournament of 2009 hosted by them this weekend when they won the Cup final 38-19 against Waterkloof. - Sapa
