Best of best for massed choir fest

WE are just 10 days from the 2009 Transnet Foundation and Sowetan Massed Choir Festival. It takes place at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg on October 25.

WE are just 10 days from the 2009 Transnet Foundation and Sowetan Massed Choir Festival. It takes place at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg on October 25.

Book at Computicket. Tickets cost R30 and programmes R10 for a showcase worth lots more. Guest acts include popular Mafikizolo duo Nhlanhla Nciza and Theo Kgosinkwe. They will share the stage with top choirs, including Matthews Singers, Belcanto Voices, Gauteng Choristers, South African Police Service Choir and the Transnet Choir.

Other equally competent regulars are African Sweet Melodies, Mogale City Chorale and East Rand Chorale and soprano

Andiswa Makana, mezzo soprano Tina Mene and Ebenezer Sawuli. African music icon Mosoeu Michael Moerane will be honoured with the mass-choir rendition of his timeless piece, Ruri.

The festival is on the Transnet Foundation's list of corporate social investment and responsibility projects, and it is one of several nation-building projects that were spearheaded by late Sowetan editor-in-chief Aggrey Klaaste.
