Beenhakker, Parreira lead Ajax job jostle

A replacement for Ajax Cape Town coach Muhsin Ertugral will be unveiled on Wednesday and a Dutchman seem to have the edge over 22 applications for the position.

A replacement for Ajax Cape Town coach Muhsin Ertugral will be unveiled on Wednesday and a Dutchman seem to have the edge over 22 applications for the position.

Ajax chief executive Comitis has expressed his club's desire for a Dutchman as Ertugral's successor. This places the former Poland mentor, Leo Beenhakker, at the top of the pile.

Beenhakker's name came up for speculation last month when it was suggested in the Dutch media that he could be taking over from Joel Santana as Bafana Bafana coach.

Comitis said the club had made contact with former Bafana Bafana coach, Brazilian Carlos Alberto Parreira, though no definite decisions has been made yet.

"Our own young coach, Jan Pruijn, will be in charge in the interim," Comitis said.

He said the deciding factor will be the candidate's international exposure and experience.

He said the players have taken the news of Ertugral's departure well, and are looking forward to the arrival of the new coach.
