A NORTH West man has been arrested after he attempted to rob an off-duty police officer, police said yesterday.

Superintendent Lesego Metsi said the policeman, who is stationed at the Letlhabile police station, was at a bus stop when he was confronted by two men on Tuesday morning.

"They demanded his wallet and cellphone at gunpoint. The cop then took out his service pistol and shot one of the suspects in the buttocks," Metsi said.

The man was later arrested and charged with attempted robbery. The other robber escaped unhurt and was still at large. - Sapa
