COPENHAGEN - International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge said the choice of Rio as host of the 2016 Olympic Games was proof that the IOC did not base its vote on money - or Chicago would have taken the accolade.
"If we had thought about how to make a lot of money we would have chosen Chicago," Rogge said on Monday as the body wound down the Olympic movement's 13th congress.
"Money is not what drives IOC members when it comes to choosing a host city," Rogge said.
Rio de Janeiro won Friday's vote with Chicago eliminated in the first round of voting despite the presence of President Barack Obama.
