THE National African Federated Chamber of Commerce (Nafcoc) has suspended both its president, Buhle Mthethwa, and vice-president, Vish Maharaj, it said yesterday.

THE National African Federated Chamber of Commerce (Nafcoc) has suspended both its president, Buhle Mthethwa, and vice-president, Vish Maharaj, it said yesterday.

Nafcoc spokesperson Lawrence Mavundla said the suspensions followed a recent march to the offices of Nafcoc's investment arm.

"The directors of Nafcoc convened an urgent board meeting as they deemed that the march and its organisers had brought the organisation's name into disrepute. Mthethwa and Maharaj have been suspended with immediate effect," Mavundla said.

Nafcoc would hold disciplinary hearings against the two and they had been warned not to communicate with witnesses.

"They must vacate their offices and bring back all equipment belonging to Nafcoc. They must not talk to the media in the name of Nafcoc," he said. Meanwhile, Mavundla said, the national executive of Nafcoc had been dissolved and a committee had been set up to manage the day-to-day running of the organisation. - Sapa
