A convicted drug smuggler gave envelopes stuffed with cash to former police chief and one-time president of Interpol Jackie Selebi, the court was told yesterday.
Selebi has pleaded not guilty to corruption charges and says he is the victim of a conspiracy.
Here are some facts about Selebi:

Prosecutors have accused Selebi of receiving about R1,2million from Agliotti to ignore drug trafficking.
l Born in Johannesburg on March 7 1950, Selebi was a functionary of the ANC.
l Selebi was a representative of the World Federation of Democratic Youth in Budapest, Hungary, from 1983 to 1987.
l Selebi became SA's representative to the United Nations in 1995 and received the International Human Rights Award in 1997. - Reuters; Department of International Relations and Cooperation
