MpowerFM puts Murrell in the mix

MPUMALANGA'S independent radio station MpowerFM has a new programme manager.

MPUMALANGA'S independent radio station MpowerFM has a new programme manager.

The station yesterday announced Tony Murrell as new manager from the beginning of this month.

"From Radio Luxembourg to Capital Radio to South Africa's national broadcaster and now, after 11 years on air in the United Kingdom, Tony Murrell is back home," said the station's spokesperson Janine Wolhuter.

Murrell began his radio career in 1981, working for Radio Nova in Italy, before moving to ABC Radio in Ireland.

In 1989 he joined Radio Luxembourg for a year before coming to South Africa, where he joined Capital Radio 604.

Later he moved to 5FM and worked there until 2005, when he returned to the United Kingdom.

Now Murrell has returned to the country to take up the position of programme manager at the Nelspruit-based commercial radio station.

"I'm really excited about this new challenge and looking forward to working with the station manager Kevin Savage again," said Murrell.

Earlier this year, while he was on holiday in South Africa, Murrell visited MpowerFM for a week and was offered the position by Savage.

"What a pleasure to welcome him as part of our management team," Savage said.

"Tony will be responsible for our programming, which means what you hear is now down to him."
