NEWLY-elected Safa president Kirsten Nematandani will meet President Jacob Zuma and Fifa boss Sepp Blatter to assure them that the 2010 World Cup is still well on track.
Nematandani will meet Zuma and other senior government leaders in Nasrec, near Soweto, tomorrow, where the new Safa executive committee will also be having its first meeting since their election into office a fortnight ago.
On Thursday, Nematandani will be off to Switzerland to brief Blatter, who last week issued a statement on Fifa's website congratulating him on his election. The world controlling body has also endorsed the new Safa leadership.
"I will assure the two leaders that we remain on track for the 2010 World Cup finals despite having a new Safa leadership," said Nematandani yesterday.
"The leaders at the Local Organising Committee and people on the ground who have been driving the World Cup process are still there.
"We are working hard with all the stakeholders to ensure that we deliver on our promise of hosting the most successful World Cup ever.
"The support we have been getting from all over the country has been great, and we are still trying to reach out to everybody in soccer to ensure we operate under one roof."
Nematandani said the process of searching for competent people to serve on the various sub-committees of the new Safa national executive committee was under way.
"It is one of the issues we will discuss during our first meeting on Tuesday (tomorrow). There is a need to get the CVs of people to serve on various sub-committees from the regions.
"The meeting will also come up with ways and means on how we are going to operate and issues relating to governance."
Nematandani was at the University Sport South Africa in Durban on Friday for a gala dinner where he commended the country's universities' sport governing body on their efforts to develop various sporting codes in the country.
Nematandani said Ussa must help South Africa in the 2010 World Cup preparations.
l Yesterday, Nematandani officially opened a new artificial turf soccer facility in Makwarela, Limpopo, and later in the evening was honoured by the Safa Vhembe region for his election as Safa's president.
l Majimbos beat Zimbabwe 3-0 in a friendly at the new facility.
