'A dangerto state'

SACP general secretary and Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande says Weekend Argus journalist Ivor Powell should be charged with treason.

Powell was a Mail & Guardian journalist before he joined the Scorpions.

In 2006, while working as a Scorpions investigator, he authored the Special Browse MoleReport, which claimed that President Jacob Zuma was planning to overthrow then president Thabo Mbeki.

Nzimande said he was shocked that Powell had found work again on the newspaper.

"He is dangerous, a threat to the security of the state," Nzimande said in Khayelitsha yesterday.

"We want to ask the Independent Group: how are we going to trust your sources when its known there is an information peddler telling lies?"

"They are actually employing a person who must be prosecuted - who should be charged for treason." - Anna Majavu
