Bekker back for Province

SPRINGBOK lock Andries Bekker makes a comeback for Western Province when they take on the Boland Cavaliers in an Absa Currie Cup derby match at Newlands tomorrow at 3pm.

SPRINGBOK lock Andries Bekker makes a comeback for Western Province when they take on the Boland Cavaliers in an Absa Currie Cup derby match at Newlands tomorrow at 3pm.

Bekker has recovered from a shoulder injury suffered in the Springboks' Tri-Nations tour last month and will be in the starting line-up.

Springbok scrumhalf Ricky Januarie, who was on the bench last week, is also in the starting XV.

Coach Allister Coetzee has drafted in rising Australian star Matt Toomou to replace Gavin Lewis at flyhalf.

Western Province spokesperson Gavin Lewis said the 19-year-old Toomou was on loan from Super 14 side the ACT Brumbies until the end of the competition.

"Toomou is an exciting young player and we are excited to have him in our team. He made his debut for us against the Griquas and he performed at his best after coming into the match late," Lewis said.

A victory tomorrow will secure a home semifinal for Province.

In other games tomorrow the Blue Bulls engage Griquas at Loftus, while the Sharks entertain the Lions at Kings Park Stadium. Both matches will start at 3pm.

Today the Cheetahs face the Leopards, who are seventh on the log, at Bloemfontein's Free State Stadium at 7.10pm.
