Suicide pupil 'not only victim'

THE Scottsville Primary School pupil in Pietermaritzburg, who committed suicide because he did not want to go back to the same school and be subjected to the taunting and abuse of a racist teacher, was not the only victim.

Sowetan has been informed by a parent that other pupils and teachers at the school have came forward to testify against the accused teacher.

The internal investigation was set up after Sduduzo Qulo, 13, hanged himself shortly after begging his mother not to let him go back to the same school next year.

Nolwazi Dlamini, the mother of Sduduzo, insist that her son committed suicide because he could not take anymore of the racist abuse.

The investigation launched by the department of education into the matter is still under way.

Meanwhile, separate investigations by the SA Human Rights Commission and the South African Council for Education are also under way.
