Malcolm X pulls a Kanye

MALCOLM X tried to pull a Kanye West at the Media Personality Awards in Johannesburg on Tuesday night but came way short.

The American jumped on stage during the recent MTV Awards, and grabbed the microphone from what he termed an undeserving winner. Malcolm attempted the same stunt with Edith Venter.

This happened during the inaugural The Olay Iconic Women Awards at Villa Tuscan in Midrand.

Venter, a top socialite, had just been named Media Personality when Malcolm jumped on to the stage.

It was not clear whether he was drunk like his idol West.

A witness at the event said Malcolm was ranting about how Venter was not deserving of the award. He demanded the award be given to his charge, Khanyi Mbau, instead.

When he was done with his ranting he was simply ushered off stage. It appeared his mission was accomplished.

Those in attendance appeared horrified and perplexed while others giggled out of sheer embarrassment.

"I found him hilarious. I don't think there was anything wrong with it. He was just having fun.

But I must say he is a copy-cat. He should be original," said Sunday World senior assistant editor Kuli Roberts. Roberts was also nominated for the same award.

Malcolm X, who manages Mbau, had a public fall-out with her former husband, Mandla Mthembu, who thought they were having an affair. Malcolm X in turn accused Mthembu of wanting him dead.

Mbau used the awards to show off her new Lamborghini - complete with personalised number plates - new boobs and fake hair. Other winners were Gerry Rantseli and Khanyi Dhlomo.
