She gave water birth to her first child, Khanya, on Saturday at Genesis Clinic in Saxonworld. She weighed in at 3,4kg. Also in attendance was her beau, uMhlobo Wenene DJ Phumzile Zonke.

Matola, who played Bridget the conniving wife of businessman Dumisane Shabane in Generations, said the experience was hectic and exciting.

She quit Generations in June last year.

"I had a peaceful birth. It was pain, pain, a few pushes and she was out. What made it beautiful was that Phumzile was there holding my hand the whole time. Hearing my baby's cry was one of the most elegant times ever."

Explaining her decision to have water birth, she said: "I wanted a smooth and pain-free labour."

Zonke said he was excited about the birth of the baby.

He said he planned to pay ilobolo for Matola in December.
