Thubelihle Zulu was arrested on Sunday by the Nongoma police in northern KwaZulu-Natal after a fight last Thursday.
Qhamukile Zulu said yesterday: "I received a call from a policeman notifying me that Thubelihle had escaped from custody .
"He was found dead in an open field. Had the police not been careless he would be alive today."
Captain Vusi Mbatha said : "I'm still trying to establish the possibility of a person running away with hands tied. It doesn't make sense. " - Canaan Mdletshe
