FNB adds R6,3m booster for Majimbos

FIRST National Bank yesterday reaffirmed its unwavering support for Majimbos by unveiling a further R6,3million sponsorship.

FIRST National Bank yesterday reaffirmed its unwavering support for Majimbos by unveiling a further R6,3million sponsorship.

The money is a big morale boost for the South African Under-17 national soccer side ahead of Sunday's game against Zimbabwe at a new artificial pitch facility in Thohoyandou. Solly Luvhengo, the team's coach, says the money will come in handy as preparations are at an advanced stage.

The new Majimbos were assembled in April to prepare for the 2011 African Under-17 Championships. This was after the Class of 2007, most of whom are in Egypt with Amajita for the World Youth Championship, graduated.

"We put together the team seven months before the start of our preparations," Luvhengo said. "These youngsters must get as much international game time as possible . we need to play against the giants on the continent.

"It does not make sense to play against minnows, winning the matches 7-0 and 9-0 and ultimately fooling ourselves by thinking we are the best in the world."

Also present at the media briefing were newly elected Safa president Kirsten Nematandani, chief executive Raymond Hack and Derek Carstens from the bank.
