Clothing strike end in sight

A RECOMMENDED settlement over a wage dispute has been reached during a CCMA-facilitated session, the SA Clothing and Textile Workers Union said.

A RECOMMENDED settlement over a wage dispute has been reached during a CCMA-facilitated session, the SA Clothing and Textile Workers Union said.

"This could possibly end the 10-day national wage strike by 55000 workers," Sactwu general secretary André Kriel said. "The negotiating team believes it addresses all core issues."

The strike was suspended after the settlement in Cape Town yesterday. Details of the deal will be released once a mandate had been obtained.

The union had been demanding a 7,9percent increase, with paid sick leave and bigger increases for workers in rural areas. The employers had previously offered eightpercent with "conditions". - Sapa
