SEVEN Nollywood stars are set to give South Africans more reason to laugh at their string of shows featuring some of the country's best musicians.

The stars landed at OR Tambo Airport on Monday.

They are in South Africa to strengthen ties between local artists and Nigerian entertainers through a series of shows themed "A moment of community laughter".

In May film stars and producers Osita Iheme and Chinedu Ikedieze rocked Johannesburg in a show with singer and actor Kelly Khumalo.

The Nollywood stars in the country are John Okafor aka Mr Ibu, Patience Ozonkwo aka Mama G, Nkem Owoh, Afamefule Clint Igwemba aka Klint De Drunk, Okey McAnthony Onyegbule, Stanley Ghweleke and Anyaiofu Kelechi.

Okafor has stared as the main character in 273 movies and is adored on this side of the continent for his famous film, Mr Ibu.

Ozonkwo also shot to fame with her film Mama G.

The artists were brought to the country by the MCL Group of Companies, a group of entertainment companies formed by young people in Randburg.

Soweto will be the last stop for the Nollywood stars, who are scheduled to entertain fans at Walter Sisulu Square. Gates will open at 4pm.

Khehla Tshabalala, events manager of the MCL Group, said the visit by the stars was to celebrate South Africa and Nigeria as pioneers of entertainment in Africa.

"We want to strengthen ties between South African entertainers and the Nigeria ones," Tshabalala said.

On Saturday the stars will perform with Thembi Seete and Theo of Mafikizolo at the Coca-cola Dome. Gates open at 4pm.

In Pretoria the Nollywood stars will perform at the Pretoria Showgrounds at the same time, on October 3.
