Cosmos looking to turn the corner against Chiefs

JOMO Cosmos host Kaizer Chiefs in an Absa Premiership match at Rand Stadium on Sunday with both teams smarting from midweek setbacks.

Kickoff is at 3.30pm.

Ezenkosi were defeated 3-1 by SuperSport United at the same venue on Tuesday, while Chiefs went down 1-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic in Mangaung on Wednesday.

Cosmos captain and number one goalkeeper Avril Phali is adamant they will bounce back at the expense of Chiefs, who have had an equally poor start to the season.

"We are going all out for a win but we will not underestimate Chiefs. It has always been tough for us against Chiefs but we see Sunday's match as the one that will help us to make an upturn.

"We know what it's like to be relegated so we are going to fight to the bitter end to finish in the top eight bracket," Phali said.

Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic said they were looking forward to getting maximum points, warning against writing them out of the title race this early in the season.

"We remain focused and we are certainly not fazed by the criticism that has questioned our quest to challenge for league honours this season," he said.

Ezenkosi will pin their hopes on the likes of Thapelo Tshilo, Thabiso Hlelele and Koena Mathopa, with Chiefs banking on Nkosinathi Nhleko, Abia Nale and Josta Dladla.

On the same day in Soweto, Moroka Swallows face Phunya SeleSele at Dobsonville Stadium in a game where Owen da Gama's charges at Celtic should walk away with the maximum points. On Sunday in Bethlehem, Free State Stars welcome Matsatsantsa a Pitori at Goble Park in a game that could go either way. All the games start at 3.30pm.
