Polokwane welcomes Fifa visitors

WITH the new Peter Mokaba Sports Complex nearing completion the City of Polokwane plans to roll out the red carpet for Fifa's delegation next Tuesday.

WITH the new Peter Mokaba Sports Complex nearing completion the City of Polokwane plans to roll out the red carpet for Fifa's delegation next Tuesday.

Ndavhe Ramakuela, the city's 2010 World Cup director, said Fifa's technical committee will carry out an inspection of the stadium as part of the preparation for next year's tournament.

"It's a routine inspection tour, one of the two that Fifa do in a year. The first one was done in February where they were impressed with our preparations," he said.

"We are thrilled that the delegation is coming at a time when the constructors are busy with the final touch-ups."

Kirsten Nematandani, Peter Mokaba venue manager, said the Local Organising Committee was also happy that the city's preparations for the Cup were well on track.

Polokwane will host a Food, Arts and Cultural Fair at the civic centre at the weekend, themed "Polokwane Alive".

"We want to bring out possibilities existing within the city that will form part of our package for the tourists during the World Cup," said Ramakuela. "The aim is to interact with the people in food, arts and cultural industries in line with our Heritage Month celebrations."
