The Mexicans are still recovering from last week's defeat of their idol, Jorge "Travieso" Arce, by Simphiwe "Golden Master" Nongqayi for the IBF junior bantamweight belt.
Nongqayi's victory on September 15 spoiled that country's Independence Day celebrations. The Mexican government sponsored and promoted the fight as the country's biggest sporting event this year. Durandt, who manned Nongqayi's corner, warned that "Sweet Pea" Mbamba would be another thorn in Mexican flesh when he fights "Gusano" Rojas in Vila Cruz on October 3.
Durandt and Mbamba will fly to Mexico on Saturday.
Mbamba won the rights to challenge for the WBC belt on December 5 last year after defeating Thai fighter Devid Lookmahanak in a seventh-round stoppage. Promoter Branco Milenkovic, who presented that WBC title eliminator in North West, said yesterday that Mbamba was to challenge champion Vic Darchinyan. But he said the "Raging Bull" was declared unfit to fight after suffering major cuts in his loss to Ghanaian IBF bantamweight holder Joseph Agbeko in July.
"The arrangement is that Darchinyan will now defend against the winner between Mbamba and Rojas next year," Milenkovic said.
Durandt will stay well clear of Germany this time after he and Nongqayi spent seven hours behind bars after a misunderstanding over visas.
Globetrotting Durandt has been on 19 trips abroad, with only two defeats.
Jeffrey Mathebula lost to IBF junior featherweight holder Celestino Caballero and Malcolm Klassen surrendered the IBF junior lightweight belt to Roberto Guerrero.
Durandt's biggest achievements this year were guiding Isaac "Angel" Hlatshwayo to the IBF welterweight belt and Nongqayi to the IBF junior bantamweight title.
"Mbamba trained hard for three months and is ready to do South Africa proud," promised the esteemed mentor.
