THE body of a fisherman who drowned has been retrieved by another fisherman from the Nandoni dam near Thohoyandou.
Police divers had attempted for three days to locate the body of Mashudu Mandinda, 25, but failed to do so.
Witnesses said the fisherman, who was at the dam yesterday morning, jumped into the water and started searching for the body "for only a few minutes".
"We were scared that he too had drowned and were surprised when he came up and told us that he had seen the body," said a witness.
"It was then that police helped him to retrieve it."
Mandinda drowned on Saturday evening while fishing in the company of his friend.
Thohoyandou police spokesperson Captain Mashudu Malelo said: "There were no injuries on the deceased's body."
The deceased's sister Mboneni Mandinda said: "We are happy that my brother's body has been found. But it's sad that we have lost him as he took care of the whole family's needs."
His family said Mandinda had a premonition that he was going to die.
"He took pictures with everyone on Friday and said that we must take photos together because 'something can happen any time,'" she said.
