Downs and Usuthu fired up by frustrating recent defeats

TONIGHT Mamelodi Sundowns host a team tonight that is managed by a man shown the door a couple of years ago by club president Patrice Motsepe.

The Brazilians' contest against AmaZulu at Super Stadium is intriguing for many reasons. One of them is that wins have been hard to come by for both clubs lately.

In their most recent match, Downs lost against Bidvest Wits, a team they had no reason not to defeat.

But to some even more pertinent is what Sundowns' supporters will do this time should their team lose.

Will they chant and urge Motsepe to fire Hristo Stoichkov? Usuthu coach Neil Tovey will certainly be feeling some compassion for Stoichkov, but that will not extend to the field of play.

As captain Peri Ariweriyai says, there is no time to worry about what the opposition is going through when you have your own problems.

"Things have not been going our way and we would like to use this match to change this. We know Sundowns are thinking the same thing. We are looking forward to an intriguing evening," Ariweriyai said.

The Nigerian defender believes that should AmaZulu not win tonight, it will be their own fault. He said there had been a pattern of losing concentration and dropping points, as was the case against Ajax Cape Town at home a week ago.

"We have beaten ourselves every time and it is time we turned the corner. Football is like life - sometimes you make mistakes."

Downs keeper Brian Baloyi and Matthew Booth are available for selection, while AmaZulu will be without Kapamba Chintu and Ntokozo Sikhakhane.
