I WAS shocked to read the article in your paper on September 15 headlined "Fury over gardener appointed as librarian".
The article is a complete distortion of the truth. In fact, there is no truth in the article.
I am surprised that Sowetan employs reporters who do not make any attempt to do any research or to interview the people who they write about.
Presumably, this is the first time an article was written by an amateur reporter. If not, it was intended to maliciously distort the truth.
I should imagine that the people concerned would be following up this matter, and they could report you to the Press Council. I would certainly support them if they did.
I use the library in Haenertsburg frequently and I know the people there.
The person whom you label a "gardener" is a sophisticated, knowledgeable, well-read, enthusiastic member of our community.
She has excellent previous work experience, which makes her a very suitable candidate for the position. None of the jobs she did previously are remotely connected to "gardening".
I believe that the people concerned deserve apologies as well as retractions of the allegations.
I have always respected and admired your newspaper.
I am afraid that this is no longer the case.
