TAXI driver Percyval Matji was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Pretoria regional court yesterday for killing a schoolgirl on a scooter.

Magistrate Edmund Patterson said: "Your actions were terrible and cannot be justified."

Matji killed Bernadine Kruger on her way to school in February. He knocked her off the scooter and the front wheel drove over her, killing her instantly.

Patterson said Matji showed no remorse during the trial. His mother Seli Rejoyce Mahlangu cried uncontrollably outside the courtroom.
