Troubled IFP hosts rally to reshape itself

THE troubled IFP is hosting a rally in Ulundi on Sunday to reshape itself.

The rally, to celebrate the relaunch of branches, will be addressed by the party's general secretary Musa Zondi.

Deputy national organiser Sthembiso Mbatha said that apart from relaunching the existing branches, Zondi would also launch new ones.

"The party is gearing itself for the elective conference and, as the constitution stipulates, the conference can only be held if branches are in good standing," he said.

Mbatha said they expected to launch more than seven new branches. "Currently, there are seven branches that would be inaugurated, but the number may have increased to 12 or more by Sunday," he said.

But some people view the rally as Zondi's attempt to garner support. "The fact that it will be held in Ulundi and he is the main speaker leaves a lot to be desired.

"But we will be there to monitor the progress because we don't want people to use their positions for personal agendas.

"There's nothing wrong with Zondi inaugurating the branches, but we are just a little concerned," said a youth leader who asked not to be named.
