Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
SHOWBOATING does not belong in the boxing ring, warned promoter Rodney Berman.
Berman said carelessness cost Zolani Marali the IBO junior lightweight title when he lost to Ji Hoon Kim at Emperors Palace last weekend.
"Seeing Zolani lose his world title to the South Korean underlined the age-old belief that 'showboating does not belong in the roped square'."
Marali controlled the fight from round one but just could not drop the courageous South Korean, who soldiered on despite taking punishment. Kim silenced 2500 local fans when he flattened Marali in round 10.
Golden Gloves fight publicist Terry Pettifer said the manner in which Marali crumpled under a two-punch combination had inspired a few critics to question English referee Phil Edwards' decision to stop the fight, especially since the shaken Marali had already risen to his feet. But Marali said Kim' s left and right combination that landed "behind the ear" made him lose balance. "My legs were gone." Such a blow, a "rabbit punch", is illegal in boxing.
