Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
I BELIEVE the time has come when all South Africans, black and white, will at last be able to communicate directly with the highest office in the land.
The launch of the presidential hotline came at a time when South Africans were getting fed up with the delays and poor services delivery across the country.
Under former president Thabo Mbeki the citizens were given little opportunity to interact with the Presidency.
The time of iron-fist rule has passed.
Some of the citizens' complaints include the lack of service delivery on white-owned farms and the daily torture and semi-slavery conditions farm dwellers suffer at the hands of the same farmers.
These are the reasons for the uprisings and tension, especially in Mpumalanga where friends and families of government employees are serviced better than ordinary South Africans.
This hotline should not be abused and should be controlled in a strict manner to avoid it being used by opposition parties and others to demonstrate dissatisfaction with the ANC-led government.
I would like to thank President Jacob Zuma for keeping his promise to launch the hotline.
And to the citizens I would say: We all have a responsibility to make sure that our government works. We also have the power to act in a responsible manner and not to abuse this service.
Thumbs up, Mr President.
