Kwazulu-Natal's Playhouse Company's annual National Is'cathamiya Competition takes place at the Playhouse Opera Theatre next Saturday.
Starting at 6pm and ending with the prize-giving ceremony the following morning, the festival promises to be as exciting an event as ever.
The 12th event in this highly popular series, this year's competition will see 147 groups from all over KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape converging on The Playhouse in Durban.
They will all be keenly competing for the prizes as they pit their singing and dance routine skills against each other.
The event forms part of the festivities of Celebrate Durban Hala eThekwini.
"Besides the a cappella singing and dancing that comprise this much-loved art form, made world famous by the Grammy award-winning group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the competition will also feature Oswenka and Onobuhle sections," according to publicist William Charlton-Perkins.
"The latter involves some 25 men and 25 women displaying their sense of style and fashion during interludes interspersed between the competition's mainstream of events."
The prize-giving ceremony includes the following categories: Top 20, Section 1, Open Section, Oswenka and Onobuhle.
Booking is through Computicket or The Playhouse box office.
Last year's winners are Polly Danger Boys (Top 20), Embo Humming Bees (Section1) and Mpumelo Home Boys (Open Section).
