Celebrations put on hold

UNIVERSITY Sport South Africa (Ussa) has postponed its 15th anniversary celebrations in Durban on September 26 due to the much-anticipated Safa elections.

UNIVERSITY Sport South Africa (Ussa) has postponed its 15th anniversary celebrations in Durban on September 26 due to the much-anticipated Safa elections.

The celebrations, at which top sports administrators will be honoured by the country's university sports governing body, will now take place on October 2.

"The Safa elections (on September 26) is one hell of a big event that has generated interest throughout the country," Ussa president Sanele Madlala said yesterday.

"The other thing is that two of our members have been nominated to serve on the new national executive committee of Safa and we wish them well."

The two are former chairperson Kirsten Nematandani and executive member Nomsa Mahlangu.

Nematandani has been endorsed by the Football Transformation Forum as one of its two preferred candidates for the position of Safa president, the other being Local Organising Committee CEO Danny Jordaan.

The duo will slug it out with Irvin Khoza, the LOC chairperson.

Madlala said: "It pleases us that more of our former members are playing a role in the administration of sports: the likes of Malesela Maleka, Lerato Mogorosi, Malumbete Ralethe and Andrew Dipela."
