COPE leaders in the Gauteng legislature Lyndall Shope-Mafole and Moses Mayekiso appear to have healthy bank balances based on their business interests.

The two Cope members declared their interests to the office of the integrity commissioner of the Gauteng legislature.

The members register of interests for 2009 was made public yesterday.

Mayekiso is a director of 51 companies and Shope-Mafole holds 25,1percent of shares worth R200million in a company called Rentokil.

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane declared nothing other than shares worth R10000 she holds with Telkom. While other members of the legislature have received various gifts, Mokonyane has nothing to show.

Leader of the opposition DA Jack Bloom was given Waterman pens and Armani eau de toilette worth R1000 by the acting Iraq ambassador and a clock and souvenirs worth R400 from Miami's Dade county. He holds shares in 32 companies.

ANC chief whip Brian Hlongwa is a director of a property company known as Brisigo and electricity distributing company Selco.

Freedom Front Plus member in the legislature Jacobus Mulder owns a house in the whites-only town of Orania. He also owns a café and an overnight accommodation business.

MEC for local government and housing Kgaugelo Lekgoro declared shares of less than R5000. He received a wine cooler case and two suite tickets for the final match of the Confederations Cup as gifts from Servcon Housing Company.

MEC for economic development Firoz Cachalia received a Mont Blanc pen worth R1000 and two books worth R256 from CNBC.

Chairperson of the SA Communist Party in Gauteng Nkosiphendule Kolisile is a director of security company Protea Coin Group.
