Communists slam game

THE Young Communist League of South Africa has lashed out at the national lottery's new game, calling for its abandonment before it is even launched.

THE Young Communist League of South Africa has lashed out at the national lottery's new game, calling for its abandonment before it is even launched.

Tomorrow national lottery operator Gidani will launch Powerball, the fourth game for South Africa's punters to try their luck at becoming rich. It follows Lotto, Sportstake and Wina Manje scratch card.

Yesterday, YCLSA spokesperson Gugu Ndima said the league was disgusted by Gidani' s move:

"The actual practice of gambling is a conniving method to con the poor by giving them a false sense of hope and feeding off their dreams to alleviate themselves from poverty," Ndima said.

"This shows (Gidani's) perverse greed and perpetual ambition to maximise profit.

"We are calling on the national lottery to abandon its plans and stop exploiting our people."

Gidani's spokesperson said the operator would only answer questions on Powerball on its launch.
