MultiChoice shelters needy kids

PAY channel television service provider MultiChoice has lived up to its motto of "Enriching lives" by building a multipurpose orphanage that was unveiled yesterday.

PAY channel television service provider MultiChoice has lived up to its motto of "Enriching lives" by building a multipurpose orphanage that was unveiled yesterday.

The newly built Fanang Diatla Qwabe Children's Centre, in the rural community of GaMathabatha outside Lebowakgomo in Limpopo, caters for orphans and vulnerable children aged between five and 16.

The orphanage was unveiled by founding member and incumbent project manager Agnes Qwabe, who said they were prompted by the scourge of HIV-Aids that was claiming many lives and leaving children as orphans.

Fanang Diatla works jointly with the Limpopo department of health and social development to identify children who are in dire need of shelter.

The complex accommodates more than 20 children who are cared for by trained caregivers.

The new state-of-the-art infrastructure, which cost more than R2million, has a computer centre, an office block, a hall, a double garage, recreational area, toilets and bedrooms for the destitute children.

MultiChoice spokespersonMarilyn Watson said she had appointed the Tomorrow Trust to work with Fanang Diatla and assist them with the development of an independent living plan for older children.

Top performing pupils from the centre will also be considered for fully funded bursaries to be provided by MultiChoice.
