GALAHAD and Smart Banker, trained by champion trainer Charles Laird, pictured, share top weight of 59kg for the R600000 Emerald Cup to be run over 1450m on September 26.

The Grade 2 event is the richest race on sand in Africa and will be run at the Vaal racecourse.

Narc, who won this race in 2007, has been allotted 58,5kg. Bradley Maroun's runner had his first start back in South Africa last week after having campaigned in Dubai last year.

Meanwhile, three runners were added to the nominations when supplementary entries closed on Monday - Master Blaster, Tyger Tyger and Grandalea.

Master Blaster from the Dominic Zaki yard has solid form on the sand but has yet to prove he will see out this 1450m against strong opposition. Grandalea is a five-year-old mare from Cliffie Miller's Kimberley stable who has given the boys a run for their money on many occasions. She is a five-time winner, three of which have been at this track.

Tyger Tyger was a top-class juvenile but has not raced since January last year. However, in his only start at this track, the Terry Lowe-trained gelding won with ease over this distance.

Final declarations have to be submitted by 11am next Wednesday. A live draw will take place that evening.
