THE lives of two destitute Limpopo families is about to change for the better after the Sekhukhuni district municipality promised to build them houses.

The municipality will bring joy to the families of the late Mpelegeng Grace Phala and Lebeko Thabitha Mokgotlo. The two families' struggle to make ends meet was discovered by Sekhukhune district municipality.

Following this, the municipality's executive mayor David Magabe approached Mafuri and Associates to give them a hand in alleviating the plight of the two families. Mafuri and Associates are involved in the provision of bulk infrastructure in the province.

The two families are very poor and the Mokgotlo household is child-headed.

On Friday Mafuri and Associates, together with the MEC for local government and housing Soviet Lekganyane, conducted a sod-turning ceremony at a piece of land near the families' old shacks.

The company undertook to build houses for the two families, at an estimated cost of between R100000 and R150000 each. The houses will be completed before the end of the month.

Speaking at the ceremony, Magabe said the first beneficiary of the house will be the Phala family. Phala died in July 2008, leaving behind five children aged between six and 15.

The Mokgotlo family, with six children, will be next. The three eldest Mokgotlo children are unemployed and very sick.

The two families were also given a month's supply of groceries as part of a Mayoral Project called "Help those who cannot help themselves".
