New system to end RDP housing graft

CORRUPTION in the awarding of RDP houses will soon be a thing of the past in Limpopo after the launch of a new Housing Demand Database (HDD) system yesterday.

CORRUPTION in the awarding of RDP houses will soon be a thing of the past in Limpopo after the launch of a new Housing Demand Database (HDD) system yesterday.

The new system was launched by local government and housing MEC Soviet Lekganyane at the Ranch Hotel outside Polokwane. It is hoped the HDD will eliminate corruption in the allocation of RDP houses in the province.

In terms of the new system all applicants for RDP houses will be required to re-register their names on the database. This is intended to root out corruption in the allocation of houses to the needy.

The system is hoped to radically turn around housing delivery while ensuring that planning for housing development is done according to customer demand, need and affordability.

With the slogan "Etliseng - Bring Yourselves", the system will help accelerate the delivery of housing and also provide the department with accurate details of all applicants.

It also caters for all households qualifying for various government subsidies and those in need of housing products ranging from free Reconstruction and Development Programme houses to rental and mortgaged property.

Addressing developers, municipal officials and the media, Lekganyane said the Etlisengprogramme would register qualifying people in 10 municipalities.

Lekganyane said registration started yesterday in Burgersfort, Giyani, Elias Motswaledi Lephalale, Polokwane and Tzaneen.

The remaining 20 municipalities will get their turn after the March 2010 deadline of the first batch of RDP houses is completed.
