This happens right in front of big businessman Andre Kerr, but he does not see it and that is simply because he cares more about action inside the ring.
Kerr hardly misses a boxing tournament in Gauteng. Yesterday he crowned his unconditional love for boxing by launching his boxing promotion house, Seconds Out Promotion.
The ceremony took place at Gold Reef City Casino. It was graced by promoter Jeff Ellis, Golden Gloves fight publicist Terry Pettifer, luminaries in the business sector and trainers Benny Pailman, Peter Faver and Cliff Martins - the three musketeers.
"I have been involved, spiritually, with boxing for over 20 years. I have supported and sponsored boxers and I was happy with that arrangement until Benny Pailman suggested that I get involved in a more meaningful way as a promoter," Kerr said.
"It all took us one week and I had acquired a promoter's licence with Boxing SA."
Kerr, from Ruimsig on the West Rand, revealed that seeing the same faces at boxing tournaments had also motivated him to heedPailman's call.
"There are so many boxers out there who don't get fights, so I'm here and will do my best to give them action. I will work with anybody."
Kerr said he would stage his maiden boxing tournament at Wembley Arena south of Johannesburg on September 24. He surprised the conference yesterday when he announced the bill, which has already been approved by Boxing SA.
It is a seven-bout bill of six-rounders and will not be televised, so that means Kerr will foot the bill from his own pocket.
The list of participants includes Sipho "Tsunami" Taliwe, Johnny Muller, Nkululeko "Bulldog" Mhlongo, Kyle "The Warrior" Bothma, Shaun Santana, Marcel "Lights Out" Japhta, Koos Sibiya and Alvin Mahonisi.
Admission is R50. The action will start at 8pm.
