YOUTH LEAGUE SACKS LEADERS

THE ANC Youth League leadership in Vhembe, Limpopo, has been disbanded amid allegations of a plot to divide the organisation and introduce bogus delegates to the conference.

The dissolution of the leadership ended a three-day dispute over the credentials and attempts by some members of the league to sideline some delegates to the conference, which was held at the weekend.

Youth League deputy general secretary Steve Ngobeni confirmed yesterday that the leadership structure of the organisation in the region had been dissolved and could not continue to lead the body.

The regional structure, under the leadership of Dogen Ndove and Percy Mashimbye, was accused of running the league as their fiefdom.

The two are also accused of introducing delegates that did not qualify to participate in the conference.

They were also accused of not communicating decisions taken by national structures to branches.

Sources in the league said Mashimbye had apologised to the conference for the failure to allow members to lodge their disputes over the nomination of candidates.

"This is dividing the organisation because the one group supports Youth League president Julius Malema, while the other supports Lehlogonolo Masoga," said a source.

Ngobeni said the concerns raised by members were genuine, resulting in the conference being postponed.

Ngobeni said a task team would be appointed to manage the affairs of the region until a new leadership was elected in about five weeks.
