Amajita off to test Germany

AMAJITA'S preparations for the World Youth Championships in Egypt enter their final phase when the squad tours Germany for a game against the local Under-20 side.

AMAJITA'S preparations for the World Youth Championships in Egypt enter their final phase when the squad tours Germany for a game against the local Under-20 side.

The match takes place in Hamburg on Saturday at 3.30pm, the same day Bafana Bafana play that country's senior squad in Leverkusen at 8.45pm.

National Under-20 coach Serame "Rhee" Letsoaka will use the week-long tour to assess the team before announcing the final squad to play in Egypt.

Letsoaka named a 30-member provisional squad two weeks ago to feature against the Germans, who are preparing for the same tournament in Egypt.

"We will have 95percent of the boys who will represent us in Egypt from the team going to Germany, the good thing is that the majority of them have been together for some time.

"They have been part of the previous Under-17 team that qualified for the African Under-17 Championships finals and have featured in a series of international games. After the trip to Germany, Amajita will be back home for a week before assembling on September 14. We will then leave two days later for a seven-day camp in Ethiopia."

Amajita did well in the African Youth Championships to qualify for the global competition. Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Amajita captain, said: "We are looking forward to the game in Germany, it will give us an idea of what to expect in Egypt because they have also qualified." For the tournament in Egypt, Amajita have been drawn against United Arab Emirates, Hungary and Honduras. Some of the big names in the team include Mandla Masango, Kermit Erasmus, Masibusane Zongo, Kamohelo Mokotjo and Mdudzu Nyanda.
