MPUMALANGA Detroit Ladies coach Jurry Kgomo yesterday raised an eyebrow when he accused some clubs in the Sasol League National Champions of bribing referees.

Kgomo vented his fury though his team was crowned league champions on Saturday. They thrashed Durban Ladies 6-1 in a one-sided final at Erica Park. But Kgomo is far from being happy because some teams allegedly bribed referees.

"I think there were teams that were bribing the referees to win matches. I don't think Durban Ladies deserved to be in the final," he said, "The scoreline is proof of that. I don't think any team should lose by such a big margin in a final. We could have actually scored more but I decided to take some of my most dangerous players off because I didn't want to embarrass women football."

But tDurban Ladies' team manager Mary-Jane Sokhela dismissed the charge. She said Kgomo's claims were bad for the game.

"He must learn not to open his big mouth about things he is not aware of. I'm challenging him to come (forward) with proof to substantiate his allegations," Sokhela fumed.

Meanwhile, Croesus Ladies celebrated Women's Month in style by winning the Philips Zodwa Khoza Soccer Challenge in Soweto on Saturday. They achieved the feat after beating Pimville All Stars 4-0 at Hyundai Park.

The event is held annually in honour of the late Orlando Pirates brand manager Zodwa Khoza for her contribution in local soccer .

Croesus went home R15000 richer for their efforts, while Pimville got R7000. Tshiawelo's Fabulous beat Eldorado Park's Colchester 4-1 to win bronze medal.
