MADRID - Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt is becoming a fan of Spanish football after watching Real Madrid's season-opening win over Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday night, but adds that Manchester United remain the team for him.

"I support Manchester United in the English League. I am now a fan of Real Madrid. (Ruud) van Nistelrooy has always been one of my favourites," said Bolt afterwards as he met reporters at the Bernabeu Stadium, an arena which clearly impressed him.

"I was very nervous on the pitch, for the first time in my life, I had never been there before . the crowd was overwhelming. I could play football, cricket or basketball. If I change sport, I'll pick up easily," said Bolt.

After the game, Bolt went for dinner with new Real star and former United kingpin Cristiano Ronaldo and his family.

Bolt will compete on Friday in Brussels before heading home to Jamaica before he attends the Grand Prix finale on September 12-13 in Salonika in Greece.

He added he had not yet assessed what his calendar would be for 2010 though he expects to chase down more world records.

"I want to be a legend in the sport and stay there for a long time," said the IAAF sprint champion.

He said his interest in football stems from playing at school and high school "as a defender or a defensive midfielder".

Looking ahead he said he intends to "keep working with my coach on improvements to run faster. This year we worked on my start and I improved a lot in Berlin." - AFP
